Our reply to the e-mail campaign against Intifada.com

Our link with Amazon.com has been closed by the company. This is due to unjustified e-mail campaign against us. Our site will remain a voice of peace in this insanity of hate.

An indignant Eric Greenberg, founder of Scient, Viant, and 12 Entrepreneuring, sent out an e-mail over the weekend to Jewish business leaders and politicians slamming Amazon. With Amazon.com essentially supporting Intifada.com, according to Greenberg, the online retailer is part of the "killing machine--one intent on eradicating the Jewish state and potentially all Jewish people." The story of Intifada.com is as follows;

My name is Qasem Qasem, 24 years old young man. If it concerns you what nationality I hold. I am a Palestinian born and lived most of my life in Kuwait. Currently I am studying medicine in Ireland.

When the events of the Intifada started on Sep,28, 2000, I approached the Palestinian student union in Britain with the idea of a site that will only concentrate on Palestinian suffering on the hands of the Israeli occupation forces. With a 150 sterling pounds (200 $). The site was designed and launched by an Irish web designer. The translations of the site came from honest people who sympathised with the Palestinian people suffering. I personally felt a duty towards these people not to involve the site with politics and just concentrate on the human side of the Palestinian suffering.

Intifada.com was a simple attempt to ask the world to stop that suffering, to no avail till now.

I was asked of my political views. I will say now my opinion. Whether Arabs or Israelis like it or not.

I believe that Jews are entitled to a homeland. They suffered alot. But I strongly believe that establishing it in Palestine was a mistake and the methods used to achieve this homeland were by the least illegitimate and inhumane. Albert Einstein himself once said: “That Israel should not be built on Arab blood.”

I believe that the Palestinians should now decide what they want. We should not think with a desire of revenge. Let us have a dream to establish a homeland that is free, prosperous and teach the world about forgiveness. Let us be ready to forgive. All we ask is a viable state on a fraction of what used to be Palestine. Let us open our hearts to our Jewish brothers I dare to say. I meet many of them, and I can honestly say, many deserve admiration and respect. Let us not mix the murdering soldier and the hate driven politician with the majority of Jews. Let us fight as Palestinians for justice, freedom and peace. Religion, nationalism and revenge should not be the fuel of our war against the tyranny of occupation and humiliation. We want a country built on democracy that respects human life and dignity. We should stand firmly against the suffering of any human being regardless of his religion or race. We should stand against those who advocate hate whether they are Palestinians, Arabs, Americans or Israelis.

If separation is not possible, then we have to learn to live together. Palestinians and Israelis should live in one state with equal rights. This would be similar to South Africa. People who stirred hatred and committed inhumane crimes should be brought to justice by an International court. The solution of the conflict was within their grasps but it was lost because of them.

I believe that the majority will not accept what I just said especially on the Israeli side, but this is my opinion and I really do not care what others think is possible or right.

Finally, this site has been dedicated to the Palestinian side of the story. Yet, It truly hurts me as a human being to see the suffering of an Israeli or anyone else. All I want is a country to belong to. To live in peace.

I extend my hands to anyone who believes in justice, freedom and peace.

Yours sincerely,

Qasem Qasem
